| Are Stairs Easy to Build?
|
| By Greg Vanden Berge |
| To answer your question, yes
to some people and no to others. I have met some people who can't even
imagine building a set of stairs and would rather hire someone, simply
because it is too difficult to do. That's not necessarily going to be
the case all of the time.
With a little common sense and a set of stairs that isn't too difficult
to build, I sincerely believe that most people can assemble a simple
straight set of stairs.

If the stairway is curved, circular or even split up by a couple of
stair landings, this stairway could be simply beyond the capability of
your average homeowner or handyman, let alone someone who doesn't have
very much experience working in the construction industry.
Here's the secret to building a set of stairs and most stair building
masters or master stair builders, don't want you to know about it. Buy a
book on stair building and I don't mean to just buy any book, buy a book
with a lot of pictures and illustrations.
If you purchase a book with a lot of pictures you're going to get a nice
visual idea on how to construct and build a simple set of stairs. You
could even gather enough information from these books to build a more
complicated or difficult stairway.
Don't be discouraged and never look at anything as too difficult to
build. If someone else can do it, there's a good chance that you can do
it also. With a little common sense and the proper education, I
sincerely believe that anyone can assemble any set of stairs.
It's going to take a little effort on your part, you're going to have to
find some books on stair building and you're going to need to spend some
time developing a few simple carpentry skills.
