How Many Steps

If you have a set of building blueprints, then feel free to skip ahead to the total staircase run.

If you're building a set of stairs for a deck, porch or building without a set of plans and you don't have any idea, how to figure out the size of the staircase, then you're in the right place.

The first thing we need to do to figure out how many steps we're going to need, by measuring the distance, on the ground or floor, from the beginning, to the end of the staircase.

Here's An Example:

The measurement from the upper deck to the lower patio has a horizontal level distance of 100 inches. This will provide me with 10 stair treads that will be 10 inches wide.
