Easy Stair Building Myth
By Greg Vanden Berge
If you're reading this article, because you're interested
in learning how to build stairs easily, I would like to point something
out.
Building stairs and roofs are probably the most difficult part of
building a house.
There is no easy way to build stairs, but some stairs are easier to
build than others.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about, a set of freestanding
circular stairs, is an extremely difficult set of stairs to build,
especially if you have limited knowledge about stair building. The
people that work on these types of stairs, make it look easier, than it
actually is. Some of these stairs, can take months to build and the
people building them, are often masters at the art of stair building.
Now what about a set of stairs that goes up to a stair landing, turns
and returns back in the opposite direction, as it works its way up to
the second floor. This stairway is a little more difficult to build than
a Straight set of stairs, but less difficult than any circular set of
stairs. Again, it's a myth to think that stair building is easy, we need
to remember, that some sets of stairs are simply easier to build than
others.
Now the easiest set of stairs to build, would be a Straight set of
stairs and these stairs are even easier, when they only go up about four
steps to a platform for stair landing. Some Straight sets of stairs that
are long can be extremely difficult to build.
Just because a set of stairs is Straight, doesn't mean that it's going
to be easy to cut and install. Stair building is an art and some of the
masters in the construction business are some of the best painters in
the business.
