Bracing - Structural Reinforcement And Stair Framing
Bracing would be any piece of wood, lumber or building materials used to reinforce a stairway or parts of the building. In the picture below we're using 2 x 4's to hold the walls in place, until the roof is built. After the roof is completed, these braces will be removed and then the rest of the home can be finished.
If you're looking for a way to structurally reinforce
a stairway or a stair landing, you can use different types and sizes of
lumber to accomplish this task.
If you walk up and down a set of stairs and it moves or sways, there's a
good chance that you will need to reinforce parts of the stairway with
some type of bracing. Sometimes all it takes is a couple of 2 x 4's to
create a safe stairway.
The main thing to remember when building stairs is that they need to be
safe and properly braced or fastened to a building.
Don't ever assume that just because a set of stairs moves a little bit,
that they won't ever fall down or that everyone will always be careful
walking up and down your stairway. All it takes is one person moving a
large object down a poorly constructed stairway to have an accident.
