Bullnosing - Stair Carpentry Trim
Bullnosing can be referred to as a curve or radius cut on any piece of wood. When building stairs, it's often referred to as the edge of a rounded stair tread.
If you are going to make your own wood stair treads,
it wouldn't be a bad idea to use a router to bullnose the front edge of
your stair treads. Sharp edges can create problems and even safety
hazards.
If you're planning on extending the stair treads to each side of the
stairway, it wouldn't be a bad idea to bullnose these areas also.
Most stairways are finished with some type of bullnosing or rounded
edges. I've always liked the looks of rounded stair tread edges, over
square ones, even though it takes a little more time.
