Floating Staircase - Construction And Architecture

A floating staircase provides you with the illusion that the stair steps are floating in midair, without any type of structural supports underneath. Most of the time, as a matter of fact all the time, this isn't the case.

The picture of the stairway above, came from an Architectural Design Firm, located in Southern California. These stair treads are supported by long bolts, that also attach to a structural supporting beam, directly above.

I've got to admit, when it comes to floating staircases, I've seen some fantastic designs. There was one design I have to admit, even I couldn't figure out. I couldn't figure it out, because it was a drawing, still in the design stage.

I often wonder if that particular floating stairway was ever built.
