Glue Blocks - Wood Stair Building And Carpentry

A glue block would be any board or piece of wood that would be glued to another piece of wood. Glue blocks are usually used to add structural supports to the back of a stair tread or riser. They can also be used to provide additional support for other stair parts, during the installation of a stairway.

The picture above shows a block of wood, behind a stairway riser. This block of wood can be glued, screwed or nailed to the back of the stair riser to provide additional support for the installation of a newel post or other hand rail parts.

Glue blocks work great and provide stair builders with another method for creating stronger stairs and solving difficult construction problems.
