Joist Hanger - Framing And Home Building
A joist hanger is used to connect framing components used to build houses and other buildings. The picture below provides you with an excellent example of what a joist hanger looks like. In this situation, the joist hangers are used to connect the truss joist to a glulam floor beam.
Hangers are also used to connect stair stringers to
floor joist and ledgers. There used on stair landings and can even be
used to connect the bottom of a stair stringer to a floor or landing.
The most common use for a joist hanger in the building industry, is
connecting floor joist to a ledger, nailer or beam. Lately I've seen
them used to connect roof rafters to ridge beams and other types of
structural roofing components.
If you live in a two-story house or work in a multiple story building,
there's a good chance that someone installed at least one joist hanger
in your building.
