Level Cut - House Framing
A level cut would be any cut made in a horizontal direction or from right to left or vice versa. The picture below provides you with an excellent example of a horizontal cut that was made in a stair stringer, to create the perfect resting place for the bottom of the O.S.B. stair tread.
Stair Building Tip: Try to make any level cuts or
adjustments you need to, before attaching your stair stringers
permanently, to the floors or landings. In other words try to plan
everything out in advance, before building your stairs and then
realizing that you forgot to cut something.
Sometimes level or plumb cuts can be difficult to make, after the stair
stringer has been installed. To avoid a situation like this, it wouldn't
be a bad idea to place the stair stringer or stringers into their proper
position, before attaching them permanently. Remember, measure twice and
cut once.
This should provide you with a pretty good idea, whether you will or
won't need to make any plumb or level cuts.
