Marble Stairs - Design And Construction
Marble stairs would be any set of stairs that was built out of marble. I love it when the explanation of some things, just can't get any simpler. Marble comes in a variety of different colors and intricate patterns.
Marble Stair Safety
There's only one thing I need to say about marble and that is, it's
slippery and if it's wet, it's even more slippery. I'm sure that most of
you have run your fingers across someone's countertop that was built out
of marble or polished granite, at one time or another.
Once I was replacing a light bulb, while standing on top of a marble
countertop that had recently been cleaned. It was a little moist, but I
didn't know any better, because I wasn't gathering any useful
information, like you're doing right now. I almost slipped and fell to
my death, but didn't.
Some building materials are too smooth for their own good and marble
definitely falls into that category. If you're planning on using marble
for your stairway, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a few grooves cut
into the top of the stair treads to provide you with a little more
traction.
You would be surprised at the difference even one groove would make,
near the front edge of the stair tread. You could also use a decorative
non-skid or slip material to create a slip resistant stair tread. Most
non-skid materials are relatively inexpensive and easy to apply.
