Pet Stairs - Animal Stairways
Pet stairs are used for small dogs and other pets who have a difficult time climbing up onto couches, chairs and beds. These stairs are portable and can usually be moved easily. They are excellent for small dogs like Chihuahua's and Dachshunds.
What Are The Health Benefits Of Using Pet Stairs?
I would imagine that the benefits are the same for animals as they would
be for humans. Could you imagine having to jump the distance of your
body height or twice that?
I've seen small dogs jump distances higher than three times their body
height. I'm 6 foot three, could you imagine what type of damage my body
would suffer if I had to jump over 12 feet and then jump down?
I don't know how many small dogs actually benefit from pet stairs, but I
can tell you one thing for sure, the older they get, the less likely
they are willing to jump long distances.
Yes, I do believe that there are certain health benefits for using pet
stairs. My grandmother had a Dachshund that had a hard time walking, the
last year of its life and never even thought about jumping up on the low
couch that most of us sat on.
Do I Really Need Stairs For My Dog?
The answer to your question is no, but I would like to share something
else with you. Most small dogs might not be interested in jumping on to
your bed or couch, but that doesn't mean that you can't bend over and
pick them up.
If you don't mind picking them up constantly, don't worry about the
doggy stairway, however if you're not interested in picking them up all
the time, but you would like to have them near you, then the answer to
your question would be yes," You do need a small stairway for your dog."
One Last Benefit For Pet Stairs
Another observation I've made about small dogs, is that most of their
owners will lift them up and set them on their beds, couches or chairs,
but the dogs usually end up jumping down. Remember, they're jumping two
to three times the distance of their body height and I don't think
that's good for any small animal.
Like I said earlier, could you imagine a six-foot tall man jumping off
of an 18 foot building. Maybe you could imagine this person doing this
once, but 10 to 30 times each day, seven days a week, this has to be
tough on your pets, legs and other body parts.
