Prefabricated Stairs - Time Saving Construction Methods
Prefabricated stairs would include any stairway system that used prefabricated parts, to assemble the staircase. This would include precut stair stringers, treads, risers and handrail systems. The picture below provides you with a good example of three stair stringers that have been precut and are ready to assemble.
Are There Other Types Of Prefabricated Stairs?
Yes, there are. You can purchase complete pre-manufactured or prefabricated stairways that have been designed to your specifications. You can order spiral stairs, Straight stairs, stairs with landings and even circular stairways that have been built somewhere else.
Prefabricated Stairway Building Advantages
These stairs can be built inside of a building, in a controlled
environment. Workers can work 24 hours a day to increase production and
most of the stair materials are readily available, inside of the
building.
These stairway manufacturers usually have more tools available to them
than someone working on the job site. Some of these companies even have
machines that will precut all of the parts needed to assemble almost any
type of staircase.
Disadvantages For Building Prefabricated Stairs
You better not make a mistake, because if you do, you're in trouble. A
stairway that was prefabricated somewhere else, doesn't have the
advantage of someone working at the job site.
When I cut my first stair stringer, I can usually put it in position and
double check my measurements. If you're building a set of stairs 10
miles away from the job, you might not have the same opportunity.
One of the biggest problems with anything that was prefabricated, would
be any mistakes that you made, before realizing what you've done.
