Red Oak - Wood Stair Building Lumber
Red Oak is probably one of the most popular hardwood lumber's sold in Southern California. The picture below provides you with an excellent example of a piece of Red Oak that has been stained. This building material is an excellent choice for stairs, wood trim and cabinets.
Hardwoods And Lacquer Stair Treads
I can't think of one type of hardwood that you couldn't put enough
lacquer on to end up with an extremely smooth surface. I'm here to warn
you, that the words smooth and stair treads, shouldn't be used in the
same sentence.
Smooth stair treads create slippery stairs and slippery stairs cause
accidents. I don't care how nice your stairway is going to look, after
you have applied some type of sealer or lacquer to the finished treads
or steps.
I have seen some incredible looking stairways and some of them have been
polished regularly, for so long, that they're almost impossible to use
safely.
It doesn't matter how beautiful something is, if it's not functional,
what's the point. Stairway should be built for safety first, usability
second and then last but not least, as a creative inspiration, if
necessary.
