Screw - Building Hardware Materials
Screws are used to fasten two objects together. They come in a variety of different shapes and sizes and are usually made out of metal.
What Type Of Screws Should I Use?
If you're planning on building something on the outside of your home and
the screws are going to be exposed to the weather, I would suggest using
galvanized screws. They seem to work the best for me and have
consistently outperformed almost any other metal, within their price
range.
If price is an issue, you can use Zinc coated screws or nails. The only
problem with these screws or nails is chipping or flaking. I've seen the
coating on these nails and screws fall off, while I'm either screwing
them in with an electric screw gun or driving them in with a pneumatic
nail gun.
Selecting The Right Screw Tip
Some people don't realize that the screw tip size is usually located on
the box of screws. They're usually in the form of a number, for example,
#8 or #6.
This information is helpful, when you need to select the right screw
driver for screw tip bits for an electric screw gun. The wrong screw tip
can strip the head of the screws and waste a lot of your time.
