Stair Safety Gate
Stair safety gates are used to block off access to either the top or bottom of a stairway. If you live in a home with small children, it wouldn't be a bad idea to purchase a safety gate, to keep your kids from going upstairs, downstairs or even using the stairs.
Stair Safety Gate Tips
Make sure that you install your safety gates correctly and always follow
the installation instructions. I wouldn't be as concerned with the
installation, if it wasn't going to be located at the top of the
stairway.
If the people or pets that you're trying to protect, knock over one of
these safety gates and injure themselves, because you forgot to install
one screw, you're defeating the whole purpose of having one, in the
first place.
The Safety Gate You Ordered Doesn't Work
Return it to the manufacturer and try to find one that does work. Whatever you do, don't try to modify or adjust it, in any way, because you could be creating problems for your family in the future, if the modifications doesn't work.
Is It Better To Have A Safety Gate At The Top And Bottom Of The Stairs?
Yes, if you don't want to haul them up and down the stairway, but we
only had one when our children were small and would use it to block
either the top or bottom of the stairway, depending upon where the
children were.
If the children were sleeping upstairs, we would block the upstairs
hallway, if they were playing downstairs, we would block the bottom of
the stairs. Remember, the main objective is to keep your children or
pets safe, not to spend hundreds of dollars, if you don't have to.
My Kids Are Climbing Over The Safety Gate
If that's the case, then it's obviously not a safety gate anymore, but
part of an obstacle course. This actually happened to my children and
since I didn't have the resources to build a huge cage over the
stairway, I decided to provide them with a warning.
I guess the reality is once your kids start to climb over the stair
safety gate, it's either time to start spending more money or pick up a
few books on Child psychology.
