Strap - Building Hardware
Metal building hardware straps come in a variety of different widths,
lengths and thickness and can provide you with a nice solid connection, for
stringers, posts, landings, joist, head outs and other framing members or
parts.
These building straps can be purchased at most lumber yards
and home improvement centers. Make sure you use the correct sized nails and
follow the manufacturer's installation instructions, unless specified
differently by a structural engineer.
They can also be used for
repairs like the picture below.
The strap in the picture above looks like it is being used to prevent the
stair stringer from cracking further and providing it with additional
structural support.
If you have a problem with a stairway and a
structural support strap won't work for your specific home repair, then make
sure you check out some of the other types of hardware to see if they will.
There are lots of different shapes and sizes and ways to fasten them
together, but you might need to get little creative every once in a while,
with these items.
