Strap - Building Hardware

Metal building hardware straps come in a variety of different widths, lengths and thickness and can provide you with a nice solid connection, for stringers, posts, landings, joist, head outs and other framing members or parts.

These building straps can be purchased at most lumber yards and home improvement centers. Make sure you use the correct sized nails and follow the manufacturer's installation instructions, unless specified differently by a structural engineer.

They can also be used for repairs like the picture below.

The strap in the picture above looks like it is being used to prevent the stair stringer from cracking further and providing it with additional structural support.

If you have a problem with a stairway and a structural support strap won't work for your specific home repair, then make sure you check out some of the other types of hardware to see if they will. There are lots of different shapes and sizes and ways to fasten them together, but you might need to get little creative every once in a while, with these items.
