Basic Stair Building

By Greg Vanden Berge

If there's one thing I can tell you about basic stair building, it's not going to be simple or doesn't have anything to do with the word basic. However, I've taken away most the pain and have written a book that will simplify the process for you. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think.

Basic Stair Building Book

Okay, you don't want to buy a book, you're just looking for some basic information about stair construction. The stairs going up to your outdoor deck aren't in good shape and need to be replaced.

If that's the case, you can always take the set of stairs apart, very carefully and then use the existing stair parts as a template. I know, it sounds like it wouldn't work and it might not solve all your problems. Hey, I'm doing the best I can hear, you're looking for free stairway construction advice so bear with me.

A few years ago I watched someone take apart a set of stairs, applying these same basic stair building principles. Within a couple of days, they had the set of stairs reassembled and everyone in the building was happy.

I'm not about to suggest that this set of stairs was something that I would've put my name to, because it had some definite construction defects. However, it worked.

I don't recommend this stair remodeling or construction technique to everyone, but it does definitely, fit into the category for basic stair building.
