Do-It-Yourself Stairway Replacement Ideas
By Greg Vanden Berge
So you're interested in building a nice set of stairs,
possibly for your exterior deck or even the interior of your home. Maybe
you're going to repair a broken or severely damaged set of stairs,
located within your home or on your property.
The first thing that you're going to need to do, is to figure out how
much material you're going to need and this can be done, simply by
examining your old staircase.
Measure the material that you are going to be replacing, carefully, make
a list of material that you're going to need and go down to your local
home improvement center and purchase the necessary materials.
Don't forget to buy construction adhesive, nails, screws and any tools
that you don't have, that you will need to build your new set of stairs.
Some of the most common tools that you will need to reassemble your old
stairway, would be a framing square, pencil, chalk line, level, power
saw, hands saw and of course your trusty ladder.
Examine the construction of the old set of stairs carefully. This will
give you important clues to help you assemble your new set of stairs. It
wouldn't be a bad idea, to take pictures of the old set of stairs that
you are going to replace.
Now it's time to start to remove the old stairway, and do it carefully.
Try to save as much of the old stair parts, as you possibly can. This
can help you when reconstructing or rebuilding your new set of stairs.
Next you will need to cut all of the damaged replacement parts, by
copying the old stair stringers, risers, treads and other parts that you
are going to be replacing. This is one of the simplest ways, to replace
and repair a damaged set of stairs.
Be careful removing the important pieces that you will need to replace
so that you can copy them.
