Balcony Handrail - Home Building And Construction
A balcony handrail is going to be the guard rail that protects people from falling over the edge of the balcony. Most Building and Safety Departments and local building codes, require your balcony handrail to be at the least 42 inches.
These handrail should be at least 42 inches from the
top of the finished balcony floor, to the top of the handrail. Remember,
this is a minimum measurement, you can always make it larger taller.
Make sure that you check with your local Building Department, before
building your balcony's handrail.
Balcony Handrail Construction Tip: If the building code requires a 42
inch minimum handrail, it wouldn't be a bad idea to add at least 1 inch
to this measurement, making it 43 inches. If the
building inspector
measures your handrail and it's lower than 42 inches in total height,
you'll need to fix it.
