Lumber Grade Stamp - Construction Materials
A lumber grade stamp tells the user, what type of lumber they're going to be working with. You can find the stamps on almost every type of lumber produced in the United States. The picture below provides us with a number 2 grade stamp, representing a piece construction standard lumber that can be used to build houses.
Are There Better Grades of Lumber?
Yes there are and there are also a couple of grades of lumber that's
aren't.
Select = A Premium Grade Lumber with Few Knots or Other Lumber Defects.
Number 1 = A Nice Great of Lumber, with More Knots, Cracks and Other
Lumber Defects Than a Piece of Select Grade.
Number 2 = A Acceptable Grade of Lumber Used to Build Homes and Other
Buildings in the Construction Industry. Most Architects and Engineers
Request This Grade of Lumber As a Minimum on the Building Blueprints.
Number 3 = Usually Has A Lot Of Knots and Other Lumber Defects and Can
Be Used Sometimes for Blocking, between Wall Studs, Roof Rafters and
Floor Joist.
Utility = This Is One of the Worst Grades of Lumber You Can Possibly Get
and Is Usually Referred to As Number 3. It's hard to tell whether there
is more knots or wood in this particular grade.
