Molding - Finish Wood Trim
Molding is another word used by carpenters and construction workers, for wood trim. The picture below provides you with an example of two different types of wood molding. The black arrow on the right is pointing to floor trim, while the picture on the left is pointing to trim, that's fastened to the edge of the skirt board.
Molding comes in a variety of shapes and sizes and can
be found through out your entire home or building. It's used in
cabinets, stairs and furniture. You will also find it around the
perimeter of your floors, walls and ceilings.
Molding also comes in a variety of different types of woods and can even
be made out of sawdust or small pieces of lumber. Medium density
fiberboard has provided home builders with the perfect wood trim.
Most homes built today use moldings made out of medium density
fiberboard. It's getting to the point, where it's actually hard to find
any type of wood trim that isn't made out of a
engineered lumber.
If you have a large home improvement center or lumber yard near your
home and you have some spare time, check out their wood molding section.
It's not uncommon to have a wood moldings section take up an entire
aisle.
Don't forget, that you can always make your own molding. This is another
secret that most woodworkers aren't willing to share the public.
