Radius - Construction Math

A radius represents half the diameter of a circle. A radius is the measurement from the center of the circle to the circumference or outside perimeter. The illustration below provides you with an excellent example of a circle's radius.

The Radius Of Circular Stairways

If you look at the illustration above, it's not hard to imagine something like this on the building plans, representing the inside of a circular stairway. The architect or designer, creates a scaled drawing of the stairs for the builder and hopefully it's correct.

However, before the stair builder can actually build the circular stairs, they're going to need to verify that all the measurements are going to work and work correctly. If I had $100,000 for every time an architect made a mistake, when drawing a circular stairway, I would be a millionaire.

The Importance Of Staircase Planning

If there's one thing my father taught me, it was to make sure that we had a plan, before we built anything. My father was one of the most strategic planners in the construction industry. Take your time and make sure that every component of the staircase construction process is going to work, otherwise don't bother getting started.
