Recycled Concrete - Stairs And Construction
Recycled concrete comes from old driveways, sidewalks, foundations and a variety of other projects, made out of concrete. The picture below provides you with an excellent example of a stairway that was built from recycled concrete.
Some of the pieces need to be cut and shaped accordingly, but it still provides you with an excellent way to reuse old building materials and reduce landfill waste. This definitely falls into the category of green building and creative common sense.
What Can You Build Out Of Recycled Concrete?
The most common things I've seen built out of recycled concrete have
been retaining walls and stairways. They're usually located on the
outside of the building and can be used to form a variety of different
shapes.
I've seen planters and retaining walls built out of recycled concrete in
almost every imaginable shape possible. Some of them even have plants
growing in between the concrete.
Recycled Concrete And Your Backyard
Recently we had a retaining wall built in the backyard out of concrete
blocks. We could have built it out of recycled concrete, but we didn't
know anyone who was removing a sidewalk or driveway in our area.
However, if you're planning on removing some concrete from your house,
you should plan on getting creative. Instead of hauling the old concrete
to a landfill, could you use some of it or all of it, in your front or
back yards.
It's just something to think about. I can't tell you how many homeowners
I run into who kicked themselves in their behind, because I point
something like this out to them, after they've removed an old sidewalk.
Don't let this happen to you and you can avoid some of it, by reading
more of the information on our website and by watching as many of our
videos as possible.
