Stringer Layout - Construction Of Stairway
Stair stringer layout is the method used to properly mark the structural supports for a set of stairs that uses stringers. The picture below provides you with an excellent example of a stair stringer that has been laid out and is now ready to cut. Stair stringers come in a variety of different shapes and sizes and can be made out of variety of different building materials.
Is It Hard To Lay Out A Stair Stringer?
It's probably the hardest part of building a stairway. Let me rephrase
that, it's probably the hardest part of building a stairway, correctly.
One of the biggest problems with even experienced stair builders would
be all of the individual things you need to take into consideration.
Flooring, handrails, newel posts, banisters,
drywall backing, nosing,
etc..
Every once in awhile you run across a set of stairs, for an
outdoor deck
or front porch that isn't difficult to figure out, but when you get into
some of the more complicated stair designs and custom homes, you better
have your thinking cap on.
When you're laying out a stair stringer you need to understand what goes
where and how it's going to affect each stair step.
