Vinyl Nails - Building Hardware

Obviously a vinyl nail would be a nail made out of vinyl, but in this description, I'm referring to nails that are used to assemble vinyl building materials. I just wanted to make one comment about the nails used for vinyl building materials. Make sure that you read and understand the manufacturer's installation instructions and what nails you can or can't use.

Vinyl Window Installation Tip

If you're planning on installing vinyl windows, make sure that you understand which nails can or can't be used by the installer. Not only that, you need to understand how many nails you need to use, to install each window.

It wasn't uncommon years ago to use three nails on each side, when installing an aluminum window, but that's not the case, with vinyl windows.

One time I was working on a job, installing vinyl windows, when the building inspector approached me and asked me for the window installation literature. I told him that I didn't have it and he informed me that I had better get it.

I would have installed the windows incorrectly, without the installation instructions and this particular building inspector wasn't going to accept anything less. So when I tell you that it's important to read the manufacturer's installation instructions on every single product that you're going to be installing in a home or building, you'd better listen or plan on wasting a lot of money and time in the future.
