Deck Stairs - Outdoor Construction

Deck stairs would be any stairway that attaches to a deck. These staircases can go from one deck to another deck or from a deck to your garden area. The picture below provides you with the perfect example of a set of deck stairs, outside of someone's home.

Deck Stairway Construction Tip: The set of stairs you're looking at in the picture above was built out of wood. I don't know how old the stairs or deck actually are, but they're not in good shape and need to be repaired or replaced.

It's not uncommon to find a set of stairs built correctly, sitting on top of a concrete foundation or even a footing. These stairs could have also been maintained properly for many years, without any problems.

However, what happens to the stairs, when they're not maintained? For most of them, they end up going to the stairway junkyard or to be burned in someone's fireplace. The deck stairs in the picture above have been exposed to high temperatures and are definitely starting to suffer from a wide variety of cracks.

If you want to extend the life of your deck or deck stairs, you're going to need to provide them with a little tender loving care, at least every once in a while. Make sure that you repair any damage parts and paint or provide the necessary wood treatments, required to increase the life of your outdoor decking and handrails.

One last thing, make sure that you keep these decks debris free. No dirt, leaves or soil, anywhere near the wood.
